Fashion Week

I have been super distracted this week looking for jobs and places! Exciting stuff! But I have managed to look at some of the shows. Overall I haven't been blown away, but I was pretty much in love with Marc Jacobs. I haven't been very impressed with him for a while, but this year is a different story. In the economic downturn, I think this vintagey collection fits in perfectly. These are my favorite three looks.

a new project

I have been looking for a good blog project for a while. I have thought about the ever popular"street style" blog, a Boulder edition, but I am concerned about the real Boulder and the few stylish people of Boulder, since the honest to god "street style" in Boulder is about 90% Ugg boots, Northface, and backpacks. I am going to keep mulling over that idea, but in the mean time I think i'm going to tackle a different project.

I am tenatively calling it the "style web." I will dissect the evolution of my own personal style, especially the things that have influenced me over the years. This is the web I came up with.
I will start with the Environmental, Social and Media aspects, and then I will move on to Relationships, where I hope to compile whole style webs for those who have influenced me.

It's taken me a while to come up with an official position on Lady Gaga. I admit, I have gotten a little sucked in at times (alexander skarsgard's role in that one video), however I have always kept a skeptical eye open, and I have finally decided for sure that what she's doing is really a gimmick. She wears crazy costumes, but they really aren't original (alexander mcqueen, ect), she is just going for shock value. Her videos have nothing on the artists she is ripping off, namely Bjork and Fever Ray's Karin Dreijer Andersson. And her music is catchy, but it's not really interesting or different. Unfortunately her gimmick worked, she has caught the press and college aged girls and made them...gaga.

But I guess thats what makes Andersson so much better, her desire to stay out of the media and press...and only in the hearts of the coolest college aged girls.

This is a new illustration from the bear. He's been working differently this weekend and I like it. I might even be inspired to work on some things of my own...

Online Shoe Shopping

Since Christmas I have had about $300 burning a hole in my pocket. Unfortunately it's starting to go towards practical things like food and gas and beer due to my basic unemployment, but I still have been spending a fair amount of time combing through various online sales looking for my one big purchase. I've been looking especially at shoes and these are the winners and failures I have found.

WINS: (clockwise from top to bottom)
Acne Tanami Boots- They are what I always imagiened the Old Lady who lives in a shoe's shoe as.
Opening Ceremony Knit Cuff Leather Ankle Boot- I saw something like these in the Henrik Vibskov store and was enamored with their sensibility and cute little house on the prairie-ness.
Stine Goya Suede Ankle Boot- Three different materials all work together so well here!
The Old Curiosity Shop Leather Chucker Boot-My obsession with chucka and desert boots AND very girly shoes makes these perfect.
Opening Ceremony Plaid Desert Boot-another combination that I love, desert boots and plaid.

FAILS:
Melissa + Zaha Hadid Shoes (2 pairs)- I hate these shoes. They seem completely unwearable, and I haven't been able to find any photos of them being worn on actual feet (besides the models in the ad's)
Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Ankle Boots- they look cheap and I just can't imagine how one would wear them. I usually love marc but these are a miss.
Dolce and Gabanna Patent Sneaker Shoes- When will this die? sneakers and pumps will never, ever mix and will never look good.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Penny Loafer Boots- I also don't see why this was necessary. I'm not a fan of pump penny loafers, it reminds me of women in business suites or something, and why then add a boot top?
B Store Patent Leather Mules- I also hate mules. Shoes need heels. I can just hear these clomping around and I can see some girls gross heels flopping around in there. No thank you.
